About Nick

I am a Senior Medical Illustrator in the Editorial Graphics department at the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). I currently practice remotely from Boston, Massachusetts, where I relocated to in 2024 after nearly 8 years in Chicago. I am academically trained in design, illustration, and medical science. I have a combined 20 years of experience in product design and medical illustration.

Through my work as a medical illustrator I seek to facilitate communication among clinicians, scientists, and decision makers in healthcare and health policy through the production of accurate, cohesive, intuitive, and dynamic illustration.

Where I work

The Journal of the American Medical Association is an international, peer-reviewed medical journal serving the needs of clinicians, scientists, decision makers in healthcare and healthcare policy, and the general public. It has been in continuous publication since 1883 and is the most widely circulated medical journal in the world both in print and online.

The central mission of JAMA is “to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.” In addition, some key objectives include

  • Maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity and quality.

  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical research, clinical care, health policy, and society.

  • Support physicians with content that helps them make informed clinical decisions and continue to grow in their practice.

How do I help promote the art and science of medicine?
